This weeks reflections - w/e 2 March 2008

We had our first Contextual Studies lesson back after half term. This term has the potential to prove very interesting. There will be a number of talks given by industry professionals and they will be giving us an insight into this business. We have already been given our new brief and it's about the North West and the creative/design industry...is this the place to be?

I have been spending alot of time thinking about the new design brief. This has resulted in a change of artist. Although Dave Grohl is an interesting person I felt from design point of view Terry Pratchett would be more exciting. With this in mind I have decided to go with a single piece of artwork with buttons/links embedded into the artwork and so the visitor would "minesweep" the page. According to Dan this is the natural reaction of the viewer when they come across a page like this. As part of the artwork I wanted a working clock and so, below, is my attempt. Im happy with it and will be the first to own up to copying and pasting the code. The code makes sense when I look at it but I feel that I wouldnt be able to write this from scratch and so feel that I will want to explore ActionScripting further, possibly outside the course. I will chat to Stuart next week regarding this and see what he advises.

I have been working on the wireframes for the brief and have been using Visio to lay it out. I can not imagine working on these wireframes without it. To do it by hand would be such a time wasting exercise. Althought I have completed the initial sketch with pen and paper, Visio is able to use a spreadsheet to import the information and set the wireframe up from that, leaving the tweaking to me. Fantastic! Below is my first of three wireframes on Jean Michel Jarre. I have to complete the analysis.
